  • double breathing

    up to a minute (or more)

    take a deep breath in till your lungs are full, and then breath in just a bit more.

    hold for a second and then exhale slowly.

    do this 2 or more times, to calm your nervous system and help you feel in control of your body.

  • look up + peripherally

    20 seconds

    Option 1

    peripherally means out of the corners of your eyes. while looking up, notice what you can see to your farthest left and right.

    this is a grounding technique that helps get you out of your mind, calm your emotions, and settle you in the present environment.

    Option 2:

    not moving your head, look left to right again and again.

    (you can even do this with your eyes closed.)

  • get "at cause"

    a moment or longer

    “at cause” is the opposite of “at effect”

    When a something happens, you can think about it as happening to you in a way you can do nothing about (effecting you), or as something you can respond to (can cause what happens next).

    Looking at where you have power in a scenario instead of looking at something as having all the power over you, is being “at cause”.

    Intentionally think about the situation at hand and notice any little or big way in which you can have a hand in what happens next.
